  • What takes your massage from basic to brilliant?
Aside from the amenities included with all sessions there are other more important details that go a long way when it comes to the hands on bodywork itself. Do you ever get a massage and it’s the same boring stroke in the same direction at the same tempo for the entire massage? If you want dynamic dimension brought to the table then you’re in the right place. Muscles should be worked horizontally, vertically and diagonally. There is nothing more frustrating than wanting the massage to be over as soon as possible because the therapist is clueless or just going through the motions with ZERO passion put into their work. This is unacceptable and gives my profession and so many of us great therapists a bad name. Which brings me to my next rant; DRAPING. If you’re also tired of just having half of your limbs massaged because other therapists lack confidence with overly modest draping techniques you can rest assured that won’t happen here. I’m confident in my draping skills but also understand how important it is to work muscles from origin to insertion points. My work is thorough; leaving you feeling satisfied and complete during and after your sessions.
  • I can’t decide which modality to book, please help!
If you aren't purposely seeking a specific modality such as Ashiatsu, Hot Stone, etc... We recommend booking an "Integrative Session" We will always come up with a session plan beforehand regardless of what you book. Also, sometimes what you book in advance isn't always what you need/want the day of your session. For example- you may have booked a Swedish but we’ve decided that Ashiatsu may be better for you during our intake the day of your session. I'll help guide you on the best approach- day of. (This does not apply to Body Treatments- much planning and preparation is involved and we won’t have time to switch it up minutes before your session. Hot Stones also need to be booked in advance because they need time to heat up. Otherwise there is flexibility. Integrative Sessions could be a mix of several modalities into one session- time permitting. The longer the session the more options you will have.
  • How long of a session should I book?
This depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're body has a lot of mass and you still want a full body massage I always recommend booking the longest session time- it just takes more time to cover more square inches. As with all sessions the longest length (90 min -2hr) is the best rate per minute and yields the best results overall. However, if your tension is specific to one area booking shorter sessions more consecutively can also be helpful. Flow State: (Nervous System Regulation/Deep Relaxation) Hot Salt Stones will follow the same guidelines. 60 Minutes- will give you an equal focus on each area of the body. A perfectly balanced yet swift massage. 75 Minutes- will give you that extra time for attention to a specific area; scalp, neck, feet etc. 90 Minutes- will give you a full reset while getting some extra attention in multiple areas; scalp, neck, feet, etc. Ashiatsu: (Deep Feet Bar Therapy- Soothing depth) 60 Minutes- is the posterior chain only. 75 Minutes- is the posterior chain + limited time to give extra attention with ashiatsu or hands on work in a specific area. 90 Minutes- is posterior chain + time for choice of anterior ashi /focus/relaxation. 2 Hours is enough time for ashi posterior+ upper and lower anterior or a combination of other modalities mixed with ashi. Focus Session: (Not Full Body- great for chronic tension) 60 Minutes- one area of focus working with primary and secondary related muscle groups 75 Minutes- focus on 1-2 areas depending on how many secondary areas are engaged in the primary area of tension 90 Minutes- focus on 1-3 areas in one session.
  • I want Ashiatsu and hands-on work. How long of a session should I book?
If you’d like both we suggest booking a 90 minute session. This will give us time for Ashiatsu on the posterior chain and the remaining portion can either be spent doing relaxation work, more Ashiatsu on the anterior side of the body or therapeutic work in specific areas.
  • How often should I receive bodywork?
That depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Chronic Issues- We recommend at least 1x/week until the body starts to repattern itself- muscles have memory and nueropathways need to be reset. This could be anywhere from 1-4 sessions in the beginning phases of care. Every body is different and there is no way to tell how your body is going to respond to the work. Many clients use multiple modalities in conjunction with bodywork such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, physical therapy etc. As long as you’re putting in the work you will see results! Look at chronic tension as hot & heavy in the beginning and then phasing into more time in between sessions. General Tension- We recommend coming at least once a month. This is a great way to maintain your body if you’ve worked through chronic issues or simply don’t have any. Nervous System Regulation- This is up to you. Bodywork is cumulative. Therefore the more you receive the more it flows into all aspects of your life and the more you benefit. When you are regulated you have a better human experience all-together; better relationship with yourself and others, better stress response, less tension and anxiety, an ability to handle whatever life throws at you with grace and ease. It truly does wonders for a person. REMEMBER: your issues are in your tissues. When you start releasing pent up tension in the body you begin see that much of the discomfort you experience in your emotional/mental body starts to diminish. Regular bodywork improves your life; personal, interpersonal, professional and so on. It's is a win, win, win for the BODY, MIND, & SPIRIT.
  • Can I get a combination of modalities in one treatment?
Only if you book a 90+ session. Less time means less we can do. Bodywork is slow and methodical not a race to the finish.
  • I want to try Ashiatsu but I’m worried it will be too intense. Can I have a light Ashiatsu session?
It's true Ashiatsu is deep work- but most people find it very reasonable. The foot is broad therefore it disperses the pressure over a wider surface area. You don't need to be seasoned in bodywork to receive Ashiatsu. It's for most everyone minus a few contraindications.
  • Are you a chatty therapist?
NO. It’s important that you take the time during sessions to come back to your self. I encourage silence. That’s not to say you cannot talk, but I do my best to not over-engage and let you settle into the work. I like to stay focused and give your body undivided attention during sessions.
  • Do you take insurance?
NO. We prefer not to support organized crime. As time goes on we are seeing more wellness professionals not supporting that system anymore.
  • What if I need to use the restroom during my session?
Please let us know! We keep robes in the treatment room for this specific purpose. That way you don't have to dress/undress and can enjoy your time on the table to the fullest.
  • Will you see me naked?
NO. Clients are ALWAYS draped properly ensuring their privacy. We only expose one area of the body at time I.e. one leg/arm/back etc.
  • Can I be undraped during a session?
NO. Some clients run hot or don't like to feel constricted. If you’d like to omit blankets and only use a sheet that is ok.
  • Am I required to wear underwear for my sessions?
This is optional. The only time we require NO underwear is for Ashiatsu; It’s a hazard to the therapist and hip/glute work is essential during an Ashiatsu session. Don’t worry you’ll always be properly draped.
  • Do you offer pre-natal massage?
No, we currently do not offer pre-natal massage. There are several wonderful therapists in the area that specialize in pre-natal.
  • I'd like to purchase a product you use in your practice. Where can I source said products?
Our affiliate page is coming soon! We will have links to all of our products from oils, herbs, infrared sauna blanket and more. Stay tuned!
  • What products do you use for massage?
We use organic cold pressed jojoba oil. It’s pesticide-free, 100% vegan, cruelty free, nonallergenic, & paraben free. Jojoba also has many health benefits. For Ashiatsu we use a whipped butter blend of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil, Vitamin A & E. If you’re allergic to any of these ingredients please make your therapist aware and we can accommodate.
  • What products do you use for Body Treatments?
Each ingredient for the herbal body MASK is listed directly on our Body Treatment page. All body treatments are made custom prior to the session- therefore if you have a specific allergy to any of the ingredients we can eliminate it from the treatment. To keep our sight streamlined we don't list the entire body BUTTER ingredients on the body treatment. See below. Water (aqua), organic butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Oil, Safflower Oil, Coconut Oil, Vitamin A & E, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin, polysorbate 60, organic hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, organic theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, phenoxyethanol, tocopherol, stearic acid, rosa damascena (rose) flower water, mangifera indica (mango) seed butter, organic aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, organic salix alba (white willow) bark extract, organic rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, organic melia azadirachta (neem) seed oil, citrus sinensis (sweet orange) oil, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower oil, xanthan gum, organic alcohol, tetrasodium glutamate diacetate
  • Do I have to do the infrared sauna if I get a body treatment?
No, we can omit this part of the process if you don’t want it or have contraindications. It’s there to boost your treatment but it isn’t necessary to receive all the benefits of our body treatments.
  • Are you wheelchair accessible?
YES. We have a ramp that leads to our front door.
  • Where are you located?
We are located at 205 Portland Rd. Gray, Maine 04039 Unit 3. We are located inside of The Spa Studios- The property is abutting a 70-acre horse ranch (Equine Valley Stables) with rolling plains and a wooded backdrop. We are also located in the same business park as Gray Physical Therapy.
  • How can I reschedule or cancel my upcoming session?
You will need to create a login. From there you can edit appointments, see your history, payments & more. Please note you will not be able to make changes to your appointment if you're within the cancellation policy range of 48 hours or less.
  • How will I know if you're cancelling sessions due to weather or other events?
I will reach out to you personally. We will come up with a plan to work around any issues that may arise. As mentioned in our POLICIES we keep reschedules due to weather to a minimum. This is Maine and we are going to continue living life regardless of the weather. If myself or clients cancelled every time a storm was predicted (which is most often inflated by the media) I'd go out of business. As mentioned in my policies- storm cancellations are not considered an emergency. If you don't feel comfortable driving in the winter- reserve your bookings for milder weather months.
